Travelex, a globally recognised leader in foreign exchange and international payments, has long demonstrated a strong commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and frontline empowerment. In late 2024, this commitment took an exciting new turn with the launch of the League of Champions (LoC)—a gamified performance programme developed in partnership with The Gamifier Group (TGG). Designed to energise frontline teams, boost operational efficiency, and foster a culture of achievement, LoC was first introduced across the Middle East and Turkey (MET) region.
The League of Champions quickly emerged as Travelex’s flagship gamification initiative, seamlessly blending strategic performance metrics with team-based gameplay to drive engagement, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Inspired by the success of Leaguestar in other financial services organisations, Travelex envisioned LoC as a unifying framework to align diverse regional teams under a shared vision of excellence.
The programme launched with a pilot in the United Arab Emirates, involving 23 teams across the region. The results exceeded expectations—teams consistently outperformed weekly KPIs. This early success sparked rapid expansion across the MET region. Today, the programme includes 44 teams, each competing in tailored competitions that reflect local dynamics and operational goals.
To further elevate engagement, Travelex introduced “The Round Ups”, a sport-style video series spotlighting top performers and team highlights. Sprint events like the “Transaction Goal Getters Challenge” and regional competitions such as “Battle of the Best” have added excitement and visibility to the programme. A cornerstone of LoC’s engagement strategy is the TVX Arena—a dynamic digital space where frontline team members share achievements, celebrate wins, and inspire peers through real-time storytelling. The Arena has become a vibrant hub of recognition and motivation, amplifying the programme’s cultural impact.
More than just a performance initiative, the League of Champions has evolved into a cultural movement within Travelex. By gamifying business objectives and celebrating progress in real time, the programme has energised teams, elevated performance, and fostered a shared sense of purpose across borders. It stands as a testament to Travelex’s belief that empowered people deliver exceptional results.
